1. Real-time GPS tracking and live location

Geofencing draws virtual boundaries on a map, such as a depot, a city area or a parking zone. When a vehicle crosses a boundary, the system reacts. This helps prevent:

  • vehicles left where they should not be

The key question is what happens next. A basic system only sends an alert, and someone has to act. A stronger one can act on the vehicle itself.

4. Remote lock and immobilisation

Remote immobilisation lets staff stop a vehicle from being used without going to it. If a vehicle is being used without permission, staff can switch it off once it is safe to do so. This gives:

  • a faster response to theft or misuse
  • a strong reason for thieves to look elsewhere
  • less need to send staff out

Safety comes first. Cutting power on a moving vehicle can cause a crash, so use a warning and a grace period, and write down when staff may switch off a vehicle in motion.
